The stylists of the Katong branch

Hair Salon COVO

Whenever I mention that I work part-time at Hair Salon COVO, people generally ask if I am a hairstylist.
I do wish I have half the skills of the amazing stylists who work at the salon and are all from Japan. Unfortunately, a decent updo is beyond me so I’m sticking to translating and Visual Storytelling.

I did images for both their branches at Outram Park and Katong and everyone had loads of fun. Working with non-models in an open environment is a challenge I love as it is a truly collaborative image between the subject and myself. Besides helping someone feel comfortable in front of the camera, I am always on the lookout for the best possible angle and expression while making my subjects forget that there is a camera in front of them.

The eventual image might take longer than working with someone who already knows how to pose, but the laughter and memories of the day will last a lifetime.
I also tell many jokes revolving around chicken rice and ice-cream while speaking 怪し日本語 ayashi nihongo but that is another story for another day.

I’ll show you my process of posing and working with non-models in my next post. So hit me with any questions you may have!
In the meantime, if you are looking at doing crazy colours, highlights, updos, a good cut or want to pamper yourself with a headspa/ treatment, do consider coming down to COVO.
Don’t just hear it from me, I’ll let the images speak for the skill of the stylists.
